Guru Angad Dev Ji, the second Sikh Guru, was born in 1504 in Matte Di Sarai, Punjab. Succeeding Guru Nanak Dev Ji, he played a pivotal role in the early development of Sikhism. Guru Angad Dev Ji is best known for his contributions to the Sikh scripture and the establishment of the Gurmukhi script. He standardized the script, which became the primary script for writing Sikh scriptures and the Punjabi language, ensuring the preservation and accessibility of Sikh teachings.
Guru Angad Dev Ji also continued the work of his predecessor by promoting the practice of selfless service (Seva) and the importance of community life. He emphasized the value of physical fitness and disciplined living, establishing the tradition of Langar, the community kitchen, as a means of reinforcing Sikh principles of equality and service. His leadership helped solidify the early Sikh community, setting a foundation for future Gurus to build upon. Guru Angad Dev Ji’s contributions are celebrated for their impact on Sikhism’s growth and the enhancement of its spiritual and communal practices.
